TopAdvantages for Orthopedic Physical Therapy

MEETS DOCTOR’S ORDERS FOR KNEE REHABILITATION

  • Ensures touch down, partial or weight bearing as tolerated

PRE AND POSTOPERATIVE CONDITIONING AND STRENGTHENING

  • Ensures optimal health, fitness and post-operative progress.

ACCELERATED ACTIVITY AFTER INJURY OR SURGERY

  • Added bonus of earlier Physical Therapy Intervention
  • Patients may begin safe and pain free gait training and running sooner
  • Patients can gait train and exercise even before incisions are healed for the pool
  • Less inflamation when patients exercise with acl repairs with reduction of joint compression and sheer forces.

DIFFERENTIAL TRAINING

  • Able to train well leg while protecting involved leg with desired amount of unweighting

PAIN FREE WEIGHT-BEARING PROGRESSION

  • Simple strap or treadmill incline/decline features allow precise unweighting to comfort
  • Patients are able to progress from minimal to moderate weight bearing status as tolerated

NATURAL MOVEMENT

  • Simulates a more natural walking and running environment than a pool
  • Allows gravity to challenge the body without unnecessary or painful impact

TopOrthopedic Surgeon Approved Applications

POST-OPERATIVE TOTAL HIP PATIENTS

  • Enforces hip range of motion, including the difficult-to-achieve hip extension
  • Functional hip and leg strengthening without unnecessary shearing or impact
  • Allows return to lifelong walking and running exercise at desired intensity

POST-OPERATIVE TOTAL KNEE PATIENTS

  • Excellent aid in restoring terminal knee extension and quadriceps function
  • Functional knee and leg strengthening without unnecessary shearing or impact
  • Allows return to lifelong waking and running exercise at desired intensity

POST-OPERATIVE KNEE REHABILITATION

    • Safe, pain free and early introduction to normalized gait and running
    • Functional, open and closed chain exercise without unnecessary impact
    • Muscles are challenged without significant stress to tibiofemoral or patellofemoral joints

ANTERIOR KNEE PAIN CONDITIONS

  • May prove to be one of the single most effective exercises for patients with patellofemoral or anterior knee pain
  • Actually allows chronic knee inflammation to subside by replacing painful activities with pain free exercise
  • Clients benefit from this type of “active recovery” through increased exercise volume vs. disuse
  • Muscles are challenged without significant stress to the knee or patellofemoral joint
  • Well tolerated by many patients even at high aerobic intensities

FOOT AND ANKLE INJURIES

  • Less impact to foot and ankle than in a pool at waist to chest deep water

POST-FRACTURE REHABILITATION

  • Those with ORIF and hip pinning can benefit greatly

ARTHRITIS AND CHRONICALLY PAINFUL CONDITIONS

  • Avoids joint impact and excessive eccentric forces that induce post-exercise pain and muscle soreness
  • Offers an ideal exercise option beyond low impact for many individuals with chronically painful conditions such as Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia
  • Alternative for those who cannot tolerate bicycling due to strain at the neck, back, wrists or sensitive hands.

SPINAL CONDITIONS

  • The GlideTrak™ seat is easily adapted to a position of comfort from a neutral to a more rounded spine and pelvis
  • The majority of patients with typical back conditions encountered daily in physical therapy respond well to GT exercise with unweighting and postural positioning with the pelvic saddle or  with the optional balance harness which will function in the same way as traditional and commonly used  harness based BWSTT equipment.
  • It is not uncommon to relieve an onset or exacerbation of low back pain with 20-30 minutes of GT exercise during and after exercise.
  • Tolerated well by many individuals with various forms of back pain, including but not limited to:
  1. General back and SI Joint pain
  2. Subacute to chronic disc pain
  3.  less acute disc injuries, sciatica and healed fractures
  4. Arthritis and degenerative disc or joint disease
  5. osteoarthritis and stenosis
  6. Scoliosis
  7. Anklylosing Spondylosis
  8. Removes jarring
  • Pelvic pad provides stability to low back and pelvis
  • Significant core and back muscle challenges around stabilized back and pelvis
  • Low back can be positioned for comfort from pelvic neutral for disc-related pain to a slightly forward-bent posture to relieve discomfort of arthritis or degenerative spinal conditions
  • Why the improvements?
Repetitive, gentle, pain free exercise and movement all reinforce nonpainful responses, while improving blood blow, synovial fluid production, soft tissue elasticity, joint nutrition and removal of inflammatory chemicals and byproducts. Muscles work and strengthen without discomfort.
  • The GT motion stimulates the deep multifidi, spinal stabilizers, which are often neurologically inhibited by pain and localized inflammation, along with stimulating other core stabilizers.
  • The GT targets the often weak muscles including multifidi, core, long paraspinal, and gluteal muscles.

TENDONITIS, BURSITIS AND MUSCLE STRAINS, SPRAINS AND CONTUSIONS

  • GlideTrak provides key “active recovery” that allows conditioning through injuries and faster return to full activity or sport
